The book is divided into five sections:

• Our changing nature.
The questions posed in the publication aim to stimulate strategic thinking and reflection on the challenges facing education. The 2022 edition also includes a specific focus on the impact of COVID-19 on global trends. Readers are challenged to think about how the future might differ from our current expectations.
The OECD proposes four scenarios 'for the future of schooling', with a perspective of about 15-20 years; that is long enough to transcend short-term political cycles, yet still close enough to be meaningful.
