Reimagining our futures together – A new social contract for education
November 21, 2021
In this report on the future of education, the agency answers three questions posed by UNESCO: What should be preserved? Where should we get rid of? What needs to be reinvented creatively? With these questions in mind, we are looking at a new future for education by 2050.
The report takes the current social situation as a starting point. In times of crisis, the weak spots become clear and this COVID pandemic has also had its impact. Change is needed, profound change and, according to the committee, education can play an important role in this. But for education to change anything, education itself must be changed, the report said. The report also places a clear focus on delivering on the promise of quality education for every child. The committee wants to enter a new social contract that can redress inequalities while changing the future.
This report is a starting point. A concerted effort will be needed to translate and contextualize it so that the bright spots that exist today can be captured and built upon. The report should be the opening and the invitation to a vital discussion.
